Agri Culture - Building A Life Of Health From The Ground Up: Steading & Co Family (Part 1)
When we talk systems, these guys are taking it to a whole new level. Phillip is all about improving the land through homemade biological inputs, grazing management and testing everything from pH to conductivity; Konrad works the cows (Belties and Angus) and has a Temple Grandin corral to minimise stress and ease handling and is currently trying to train an ex-racehorse in the fine art of cattle wrangling; Alex and Symone grow nutrient dense veg in the market garden and run a gym which sells this product, plus beef and pastured free ranging eggs to their clients to compliment their training and aid recovery and promote their health. Alex is also becoming a soil consultant; Heidi has a mixed flock of Hebridean, Valais-cross and Llanwenog sheep ... They're also windrow composting, supplementing on farm waste with other waste products from local businesses (brewing mash, wood chip)
Their focus is very much on what's going on underground as they see huge benefits to the cattle, in particular, of a diverse sward and thriving and diverse soil population.
They've planted trees, are working with their herd to make sure the genetics are right for their land and their aspirations ... It's phenomenal. And they're all lovely!
This podcast is the first of two, both well worth a listen here.
